“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7
6/5/2020 Update - UC Grand Re-Opening!
Uptown Church will begin having 10:30 am Sunday services on campus staring June 7th! Safety measures prescribed by the CDC will be in place; such as, wearing masks and observing the 6-foot social distancing guidelines. During this initial phase, services will be family-style with no nursery, kids or student ministries operating.
If anyone in your family has any of the following symptoms of COVID-19 such as: coughing, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell; please remain home. If symptoms are severe or concerning to you, you may want to consider contacting your medical provider. Older adults and people with underlying medical conditions are at higher risk of developing severe complications from COVID-19; and should consider this when deciding to attend services or to continue participating virtually.
4/8/2020 Update (revised) - In-person gatherings suspended indefinitely
Greetings Uptown Church. Please take a moment to read about additional decisions that have been made. First, as you may have guessed, we will not be having an in-person church service this Easter. Restrictions on gatherings are still in place and we cannot come together at this time. However, we do want to encourage each of you to tune in to the music and message we will be providing online. Just because we are apart doesn't mean we can't each rejoice in our risen savior!
While this isn't something to take lightly we rejoice over the online platforms we can utilize to worship together and encourage one another. If you have not yet done so please watch the Sunday services and enjoy the Facebook live videos which can be found via the website homepage.
Thank you all for faithfully praying for and supporting UC during this time.
3/26/2020 Update - Meetings suspended April 5th as well
Hello Uptown Church. We hope this update finds you well. Given New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a statewide stay-at-home order, we have decided to extend our in-person meeting suspension through April 5th. That means that we will not be meeting in-person at church this Sunday, 3/29 or the following Sunday, 4/5.
We have yet to make a decision regarding Easter services, but will let you know about that service as we get closer to the day. In the meantime, please continue to tune into Pastor Fred's Sunday message on Facebook and on our website in the Sermons section.
Additionally, you can join Pastor Fred & Mari for "Facebook Live" on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:00 am on the Uptown Church Facebook page.
Above all please remember that this situation shall soon pass and there is coming a day we will be able to meet again as a church family, share hugs, handshakes, and life together. Until then lets continue to pray for one another, lets communicate as a church family and share each others burdens, and let us pray for our community, country, and world that have been turned upside down.
3/18/2020 Update - No in-person meeting until April 5th
Good afternoon Uptown Church family! I hope you will pause and engage your heart in this communication. I need to visit with you about how we intend to serve you and stay connected as a church family over these coming weeks.
As the situation continues to progress, and after much prayer, I have decided to suspend meeting for our Sunday morning worship services until at least Sunday, April 5th. It seems the next couple weeks are crucial to decreasing the advancement of Coronavirus and we need to do our part.
That being said we don't want to lose our opportunity to worship and I want to share with you how to "attend" church during this time. First, the Sunday services are going to be recorded and posted for your viewing on Sunday, or whenever is convenient for you following then. You can follow the link to sermons above, or simply click here to be directed to the sermon video. While we will miss gathering together in person, I do ask you to continue to engage with UC by viewing the Bible message. Second, as was mentioned previously, you can continue to worship through your giving. You may choose to give using the online option above, or you can mail your check to the church. Finally, we can continue to encourage and fellowship with the UC family from afar. Reach out to other members with a text, call, email, or Facebook message. Post a video of yourself reading the Bible as a family or post scripture on you favorite social network! Remember to keep up with your daily prayer time, and use the extra time you have to get into the Bible.
Additionally, the Awana leaders and Pastor Aaron have come up with some creative ways to engage over the next couple weeks. If you are a young person in Awana, your leader will reach out to you directly with instructions, and if you want to participate in Pastor Aaron's activities, please check out our youth program website (https://www.4twelvestudentministries.org/) or contact him directly.
Overall, remember we are Jesus’s church!
His church has ALWAYS been resilient. It's time to rise up Uptown. Live in faith. Rejoice in hope. Magnify Jesus. Show Him to others. Love one another. I have always had confidence in the strength of the faith of our church family, but now we actually get to display it more brightly and loudly than ever before.
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”—Psalms 118:24
I love you and am praying for you!
Effective immediately all church activities and facility use, other than Sunday morning worship, are suspended for three weeks, to be resumed in full Sunday, April 5th.
What this means, is that at this point, we plan to hold Sunday morning services at 10:30 AM, but there will not be the following:
- No life groups (Sunday school)
- No Connect Groups
- No Wednesday night Bible study
- No 4:12 ministry
- No Cafe
- No Awana
Additionally, to minimize use of our spaces to ensure proper cleaning for the next few weeks, we plan to operate in family worship. During the Sunday morning services held on 3/22 and 3/29, we will not have kid's programs, toddler town, or nursery. You will be expected to keep your child with you during the service.
While these are rather drastic changes, given the national and local response, we understand the heightened risk we face as a large gathering space and wanted to take all the precautions we could while committing to faithfully serve our Lord.
Finally, as stated in Pastor's note below, please feel free to worship and give online during the next few weeks.
Overall, as a church family, please recognize these changes and restrictions are temporary and normal operations will resume Sunday, April 5th.
Uptown Church family,
The UC staff and Deacons have come together and determined at this time to hold our regularly scheduled services on Sunday, March 15th.
However, we did want to share what extra steps we have taken in preparation for coming together to ensure a safe environment for all who attend. First, we have been, and will continue, to sanitize our facilities. In addition to regular cleaning, we are also making immediate changes to the way we greet one another and how we collect the offering. We are making some adjustments to how food is distributed and will provide sanitizing stations for all age groups.
Additionally, we continue to encourage anyone who feels sick, or is uncomfortable attending a service, to remain at home and tune in to the service on several live stream platforms, or after the fact, when the services are posted here to the website. Remember you can also give online at the giving link above.
Finally, we will keep this page updated with all additional changes going forward. Please check back prior to attending any service at UC, and please understand if operations and activities are cancelled or affected.
You will have an opportunity this Sunday morning to provide contact information to receive extra updates along the way.
Let’s continue to pray for one another as well as those who have been affected by COVID-19.
I’m looking forward to our services this Sunday and to sharing with you the unique opportunities we have for both worship and ministry during this time.
Remember, Jesus told us in John 16:33, "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Although this is a challenging time, we who know Christ can keep our confidence in Him!
